Koothattukulam (Ernakulam): Timely intervention by the police saved the lives of two lovers, who slashed their wrists in a speeding car.
The police said that the youngsters, 21-year-old youth and 19-year-old girl from Mannathur at Thirumaradi panchayat, cut their wrists and drove off in a car. The police followed them and intercepted the vehicle in a midnight drama at Vadakkan Palakkuzha near Koothattukulam.
The police started their inquiry after the girl's parents complained that their daughter had not reached home after her tuition classes. The parents and relatives who knew about the girl's relationship with the youth went to his house, only to find him and his car missing. Assuming that the boy must have eloped with their daughter in the car, the girl's parents filed a complaint with the police on the night itself with the number of the car and its color.
The police alerted the control room and passed the details of the car.
Meanwhile, a native of Vazhkkulam noticed a girl and a boy in a car parked by the road near Avoli at 11 pm. They drove off immediately when they realized that somebody had noticed them. The man informed the police about it without any delay. He also told the police that he saw blood dripping from the hands of the boy and the girl.
The police passed the information to the control room. The cops began an extensive vehicle search in the area. Around midnight, the police sighted the car speeding through the Vadakkan Palakkuzha road. The police intercepted the vehicle by parking the police jeep in the middle of the road, the SI said.
The girl was very weak as she lost a lot of blood, however, the boy's injury was not serious. Both of them are recovering in a hospital here and are out of the danger now, according to the police.
