Dileep’s cop-sponsored, two-day tour in a nutshell Actor Dileep being brought to Thrissur on Thursday as part of the evidence collection in the actress abduction and assault case. PTI

It has been two long, on-the-road days for actor Dileep after the police secured his 48-hour custody in connection with the February 17 actress attack case. After the Angamaly Judicial Magistrate Court granted custody, the police immediately took him to the Aluva police club for a ‘preparatory brief.’

The police ‘formally’ told him of the evidence gathering process. After some time, the police hustled Dileep into a waiting police van and the crime trail started. The police first took him to Thodupuzha Santhigiri College, a location of the film Georgettan's Pooram. Dileep was not taken off the vehicle there.

Then, the police and a convoy of media vehicles proceeded to Sift Junction in Kochi. A large crowd had gathered at the spot and the police had a tough time controlling the surge. The crowd had literally swelled by the time the vehicle bearing the actor reached Hotel Abad Plaza, Kochi. The actor was taken to room 410 where he had reportedly met Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in the case.

Reports said the police had already secured visuals of the two meetings at the hotel between March 23 and April, 2013. On Thursday, the police took the actor to Thrissur for evidence gathering. The probe team had gathered information that Dileep had met with the history-sheeter there too.

The police were meticulously retracing the crime trail as they have a tough task of proving conspiracy. According to seasoned investigators, proving conspiracy is difficult as forensic footprint and cognizable evidence are rare, and hard to come by. Hence, the police are expected to rely heavily on call data records and circumstantial evidence to buttress the prosecution's arguments in court. The police intend to use these as ‘link evidence’ to counter any alibi that the defense may put up during the course of the trial.

The police are yet to make any other arrests. The investigation team has reportedly abandoned the plan to make Nadhirshah an approver as they fear his turnaround in court.
