DileepMalayalam movie actor Dileep featured among the top trending topics in Google over the past two days, just like in November when his surprise wedding to on-screen pair Kavya Madhavan generated tremendous interest in the search engine.
People from across India and expatriates in the United States and the Gulf countries searched for news related to Dileep after he was arrested on Monday on charge of plotting the abduction and torture of an actress in February.
The actress was waylaid and tortured inside her car by a group of thugs when she was returning from a film shooting set on February 17.
The police have accused Dileep of conspiring to attack the actress. He even faces a rape charge.
The celebrity arrest was picked up across the country. The news set the social media on fire. Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp were rife with news and views related to the arrest. The news was trending on Twitter and Facebook on Tuesday.
Internet trolls rose to the occasion. Memes teasing the actor were all over the net. Many of the trolls drew from Dileep’s recent flicks ‘Welcome to Central Jail’ and ‘King Liar’. Dileep’s onscreen portrayal of a prison inmate came handy to the online humorists.
