Munnar: Pembilai Orumai members has ended the hunger strike but decided to continue their protest demanding resignation of Kerala electricity minister M.M. Mani over his alleged offensive remarks against women.

Earlier on Saturday, the police had moved Pembulai Orumai leaders Gomathi Augustine and Kausalya to the hospital but they returned to the protest site refusing to accept treatment.
Tension prevailed in Munnar, as the Kerala police forcefully moved Pembilai Orumai members, who have been on a hunger strike for five days, to the hospital. The doctors had said that the health condition of the members was not satisfactory.

Earlier in the day, the police had arrested and moved one of the protesting members, Rajeshwari, to the hospital. Other leaders Gomathi Augustine and Kausalya continued their stir before they were taken away by the police personnel around noon. However, a resilient Goamthy tried to escape from the clutches of the women police personnel and even attempted to jump off the vehicle. But she was held back.
Electricity minister M.M. Mani courted controversy last week after he allegedly questioned the character of the activists of Pembila Orumai, a group of women plantation workers, of Munnar.
Demanding his resignation and apology, the activists are staging an agitation in Munnar. However, Mani has refused to tender an apology.
