Thiruvananthapuram: Late engineering student Jishnu Pranoy's mother Mahija, who has been on a hunger strike seeking justice for her son was shifted to intensive care unit of Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital on Saturday.
The hospital authorities said that Mahija's condition turned critical on Saturday, the fourth day of her hunger strike, Manorama News reported.
Earlier in the day, the hospital staff had forcefully administered intravenous fluids on Mahija after she refused to take it.
Mahija and her relatives went on the strike seeking speedy arrest of the accused in her son's death and action against the police personnel who allegedly manhandled them during a protest in front of the police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram the other day.
Meanwhile, the police are trying to shift Jishnu's sister Avishna, who is also on a hunger strike in her house at Nadapuram in Kozhikode, to a hospital. She is also surviving on IV fluids administered by a medical team from the health department.
Jishnu was found hanging in the hostel of Thrissur-based Nehru College of Engineering in January.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said he felt no qualms about the way the government has been handling the case. He reiterated that the government has done everything possible to ensure justice for the aggrieved family.
