‘Althaf House’, located in the serene countryside of Padannakkad in Kasaragod, Kerala, is a contemporary abode that embraces the changing seasons with grace. The family wanted to create live art in the interiors with mesmerizing chiaroscuro formed by natural light and shadow. The elevation features the contemporary box-style that is enhanced with charming white hue. Meanwhile, the huge glass windows, terracotta jalis and the verdant greenery in the front yard forms a perfect harmony of colours and textures. The structure has been built by leaving ample space before the facade. The front yard is paved with classic Kadappa stones and grass in alternate layers. Besides, ornamental plants like calathea, terminalia and bamboo adorn the beautifully curated landscape.

Entrance area
The flooring done in neutral grey vitrified tiles offers a sense of calm as you enter the formal living area from the sit-out and the spacious entrance area. The elegant furniture pieces too complement the flooring while the TV unit features grey coloured texture designs. The metal pergola skylight here fills the interiors with golden sunshine. A mini courtyard is what separates the living and dining areas. In-built wooden sitting area, metal hand railings and amazing calathea plants make this the liveliest spot in the house.

Courtyard
The courtyard is the highlight of the interiors. The spaces in the house have been designed by making the courtyard, the focal point. You could enjoy the charming ambience of the courtyard from the living and dining areas as well as the kitchen. The courtyard has glass windows on three sides while the jali structure grants a rustic charm to the area. Moreover, the indoor plants play a pivotal role in transforming the courtyard into a ‘happy’ place.

Staircase
There is a full-length glass sliding door in UPVC just beside the courtyard. The sturdy metal staircase is right in front of this sliding glass. The steps and the hand railings are done in wood, adding the perfect contrast against metal work. The staircase leads to a cozy spot that grants an excellent visual effect of the courtyard corridor.

Kitchen
The kitchen cabinets are done in acrylic finish, donning classic green and white colour combination. You could keep an eye in the front yard and the entrance area through the short windows in the U – shaped kitchen. Moreover, these windows bring in cool breeze and bright sunshine too.

Bedrooms
There are five bedrooms in this spacious house. The windows in the bedrooms are made using UPVC that are long lasting and can withstand changing weather conditions too. These full – length UPVC windows play a major role in illuminating the bedrooms with natural sunlight. Besides, they fill the bedrooms with cool air. Meanwhile, the windows in two bedrooms open to the beautiful central courtyard.

‘Althaf House’ that celebrates the fabulous designer elements of contemporary architecture while being committed to safeguard the environment has now become the talk of the town.
