When Vineesh and Sasikala decided to have a nook of their own, they were determined not to go for home loans or borrow from well-wishers. And they did have their home, built with meticulous care, with not a penny spent unwisely.
» The house in Thiruvanchoor lies more to its back as frontage is narrow.
» Built on five cents, the structural plan was drawn up by their sister, a civil engineer.
» Though the plan was drawn for two floors, the owners decided to go for a single one for the time being, though provision was laid for extensive work later.
» As the front elevation was narrow, the plan was drawn to have the house sit comfortably towards the back.
» Stone cladding was used only on the parapet to give the exterior its chic look.
» The pergola roof in the sit-out with its glass covering enhances the exterior of the house.
» An outdoor pebbled courtyard next to the sit-out makes the place stylish.
» A sit-out, a drawing-cum-dining hall and two bedrooms make up the house. A stairway from inside goes up to land on a lounge upstairs.
» The house adheres to all the principles of vaastu.
» Although the drawing and dining space together forms the hall, the design is such
that the two entities are not visible to each other.
» As the dining section is a wee bit small, the seating is done in such a way that it does not eat into the space.
» For the time being, only a master bedroom and a kids’ room have been built. The master bedroom has an attached bathroom and a common bathroom has found place under the stairway.
» The space between the bedrooms serves as a study area.
» Granite tiles have been paved in the garden instead of concrete tiles.
» All the rooms have vitrified floor tiles. But the sit-out and the staircase steps have been done in Kadappa. Though Kadappa is thicker, it never turns grey with age or weather, and is a not half as expensive as granite.
» It’s mahogany everywhere. But only the main door has been ornately done up.
» The TV wall looks hep with the wallpaper around it. Some of the interior walls have been done up in light violet paint.
» Not only the walls, but the ceiling and some corners look attractive in different colors.
» The kitchen cupboards were set up without too much cost as the owner’s brother is into the business of setting up interiors.
» The yellow for splashback in the kitchen brightens up the place.
