Chris Gayle proved his value yet again by smashing a brilliant hundred against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Mohali Thursday night. The burly West Indian's 63-ball unbeaten 104 set up Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)'s 15-run win and also ended SRH's unbeaten run.
Gayle, who was picked up by KXIP at the last minute in the player auction, demonstrated his big-hitting abilities for the umpteenth time as he smashed 11 sixes en route to the first ton of this IPL season. The left-hander meted out special treatment to SRH's trump card Rashid Khan by hoisting the Afghan leg-sinner for four consecutive sixes in one over.
Gayle, who had blasted a 33-ball 63 against Chennai Super Kings in their previous match, brought up his sixth IPL hundred and 21st T20 ton by picking up a single off Siddarth Kaul in the penultimate over of the innings. Gayle's teammate and friend Yuvraj Singh celebrated the occasion by breaking into a step similar to the famous 'Gangnam Style' dance move by South Korean pop star Psy.
It was a night of celebration for KXIP as they notched up their third win from four matches and the team co-owned by Bollywood actor Preity Zinta is looking a serious title challenger in the early part of the season.
