Kochi: Sale of tickets for the FIFA U-17 World Cup matches in Kochi, initially sluggish, has picked up with the launch of the physical sales through ticketing counters at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Kaloor.
Though on the first day, the physical sales of ticket sales disrupted due to power failure, but it went on smoothly on Thursday. On Wednesday, tickets worth around Rs 1.25 lakh were sold till 10.30pm, the local organizers said.
The tickets for the opening day fixtures in Kochi on October 7 have already been sold out. For the matches to be held on October 10 and the quarterfinal tie on October 22, only the tickets priced at Rs 60 and Rs 150 are available now.
However, a major chunk of the tickets for the group match on October 13 and the round of 16 encounter on October 18 remains unsold.
Though sales through the ticketing counters at the stadium have begun, those who booked tickets over the counter will receive the physical copy only from October 2 onward.
So far, tickets have been dispatched to only those who had booked tickets online using the 'delivery via courier' option.
Those who booked their tickets over the counters and those who used the 'pickup at venue' option online can secure their tickets from October 2 by producing the coupon issued at the time of the booking, the organizers said.
Kochi will host a total of eight matches, including the opening game on October 7 between Brazil and Spain at 5pm, followed by the match between North Korea and Niger at 8pm The other matches will be held on October 10, 13, 18 and 22.
