Panaji: Dwarfs are a highly challenged section of society, but given an opportunity they can also make it big and tall, feels director Kaushik Ganguly whose film Chhotoder Chhobi has been shortlisted for the International section at the 45th IFFI at Goa.

In a media interaction at Goa on Saturday, Kaushik said that dwarfs lead a very tentative social life, they may entertain us but are personally an unhappy lot but never show it. His film wants to look beyond the common misconception that dwarfs are meant to be jokers and are born for our entertainment, he adds. The film was a different for him and doesn’t compare with any other film he has made feels Kaushik.

Poor economic conditions and social adjustment are the main problems of dwarfs inspite of the importance given to them in the Puranas says Kaushik Ganguly. It is very important to change the attitude of the society towards them and give them a sense of belongingness, he feels.

When asked about his expectations about getting an award at IFFI, Kaushik replied that he is already a recipient of two Silver Peacocks and his biggest reward is the acknowledgement of his film by IFFI. Getting representation in the international section of IFFI was the highest honour, he added.

The producer of the film, Mahendra Soni said that producers need to keep supporting good directors since cinema is an art form. Like in every industry, film industry too has its ups and downs and all films may not bring in money but once a good film is produced, money will flow, he added.
