Popular yesteryear actress Charmila, who has made a comeback to acting after a long hiatus, believes that clinging to the past will just hold you back.
''Whatever happened in my life wasn’t great. So, what is yet to happen might be for a better life,'' says the actress.
Charmila, who was popular for her roles in movies such as Kabuliwaala, Dhanam and Keli, had been in news after she attempted suicide following the apparent failure of her relationship with an actor. And recently, the actress hit the headlines again when she sought the help of police department to rescue her son from her estranged husband.
Talking about the hard phases of her life, Charmila said, “I stepped into the world of glitz and glamor at a very young age and probably, that was a major factor for my misjudgments. Back then, I didn't realize the value of money and lived life in my own terms. Whoever tried to correct me, I saw them as my enemies. Because of such a nature, my father got hurt a lot. One thing I keep on saying to the present generation is that your father and mother are like Gods. If you hurt them, you will suffer in future. People like me think that life is like movies until some day, when they realize the truth.
''I always wanted to be a good homemaker but it didn't happen. Meeting someone, falling in love, getting married to the loved one, and living happily ever after - such things happen only in movies. Girls always want to settle down after getting married. But I would say settle down first, get married afterwards. Take up a relationship when you think you are matured enough to handle everything. Don't let your past haunt you, rather follow your heart's desire living for the future.”
When asked about her recent divorce, she said, ''Although we have legally parted our ways, we are good friends. A week after the divorce, our son wanted to go out for a movie with both of us together. For him, we went out. We have no rights to take away the happiness of little kids; after all, we live for them."
