When Bollywood superstar Salman Khan made his television debut with '10 Ka Dum' show back in 2008, he was scared to open up his real self in front of the audience. In an interview with IANS, Salman said, “I felt that TV is the most powerful medium around. I asked my father whether I should do it because I will be before common man. I was scared of being me or who I am." To resolve his dilemma, Salman sought the advice of his father, writer Salim Khan, who told him "this is what you are. Go and show the world who you are. If you're accepted, it's okay, if not, then change yourself."
Salman said unlike films, when an actor does non-fiction show on TV, that's when his or her own personality comes out. That might be the reason perhaps almost all the leading film actors stay away from the miniscreen. We have seen umpteen actresses foraying to movies from television but there are only a few who quit acting to make a successful career as TV stars.
Malayalam actress Samvrutha Sunil is the most recent case who stayed away from the limelight and made a comeback with the TV show 'Nayika Nayakan' on Mazhavil Manorama. Today, Onmanorama lists out five top actress of Malayalam industry to make a mark on TV as well:
Priyamani
Successful South Indian actress Priyamani was known for her both glam and de-glam roles in her movies like 'Pranjiettan' and 'Paruthiveeran'. After she grooved with SRK for 'Chennai Express', the actress in no time stepped into a dance reality show on TV. She was one of the judges on the show titled 'D 4 Dance', along with Neerav Bavlecha and Prasanna Master, which completed four seasons in a row.
Mamta Mohandas
Actress Mamta Mohandas too joined the 'D 4 Dance' family as a judge in its third season - 'D 4 Dance Reloaded’ - on Mazhavil Manorama.
Poornima Indrajith
Although Poornima began her career as a model, it was Malayalam movies that fetched her big fame. While the actress was away from the industry after marriage, she made a return with several TV shows. In fact, the actress made a niche on television. She hosted the TV show 'Kadha Ithu Vare' on Mazhavil Manorama. This was later followed by judging the show 'Ugram Ujjwalam,' hosting the quiz show 'Kuttikalodaano Kali' and the recent one 'Made For Each Other'- season 2.
Rimi Tomy
Singer-actress Rimi Tomy is best known for her chat show 'Onnum Onnum Moonu' telecast by Mazhavil Manorama. Rimi's show is known for making her guests engage in weird tasks or games, which had become its USP. The show had a successful two seasons.

An RJ by profession, Nyla Usha entered Malayalam films through 'Kunjananthante Kada' which had Mammootty in the lead role. Her performance in the film was much appreciated by critics.
