New Delhi: Malayalam actor and Lok Sabha MP Innocent plans to step down as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) in June.

The actor, who has been office-bearer for the past 14 years, revealed his plans at an event organized by the Delhi unit of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) here. His tenure will end in June 2018.

The actor said he did not want to be president all these years. "I was forced to continue as president by other members," he said.

As AMMA president, Innocent had a tough time this year as the Mollywood was rocked by the February 17 actress attack case. The association came under fire from public, rights activists, and the media alike as it continued to back its former treasurer actor Dileep who is an accused in the case.

Later, the actor faced public ire for his comments on casting couch in the Malayalam film industry. He then offered to step down as president.
