Even as speculations were rife that two different versions of a period drama on the legendary hero Kunjali Marakkar were in the offing with two different sets of cast and crew, reports are crawling in that one of them may be dropped.
Priyadarshan, who was expected to direct one of them has reportedly backed off from the project.
Priyadarshan's Kunjali Marakkar was supposed to have Mohanlal in the lead while the other version, to be directed by Santhosh Sivan, was supposed to have Mammootty playing the eponymous character.
Priyadarshan said that if Mammooty's Kunjali Marakkar is coming forth there won't be his version of the film. Though the director had mooted the project earlier an official announcement was yet to come.
The Santosh Sivan directorial on the the subject is expected to hit the ground by mid 2018. T.P . Rajeevan and Sankar Ramakrishnan are writing the script for the film, to be produced by August Cinemas.
