Kochi: Malayalam actress Manju Warrier has come out in support of Dileep-starrer Ramaleela, whose release got indefinitely delayed after the actor was arrested for his alleged involvement in the February 17 actress attack.
"It is the right of the makers to ensure that their movie reaches the theaters and people get to see it. Nobody has the right to deny it," Manju Warrier said in a Facebook post Saturday.
Interestingly, Manju has called for support for a movie that releases on the same day as her film, Udaharanam Sujatha, on September 28. Ramaleela had to bear the brunt of the actor's arrest after many threatened that the movie would not be allowed to be released. Fearing backlash, the movie got indefinitely delayed, before the makers finally decided to release the movie.
"I saw many calls to boycott the movie, some even threatened to burn down the theaters. It is a very unfortunate development," she added.
"Personal issues and indifferences should not be taken out on a movie. A film does not belong to one person alone, it is a collective effort of many people. It will be a gross injustice for the movie," she appealed.
"Let the people watch the movie and decide,"she concluded her post.
Produced by Tomichan Mulakuppadam under the banner of Mulakuppadam Films, Ramaleela is directed by debutant Arun Gopy. Manju's Udaharanam Sujatha is directed by debutant Phantom Praveen.
Dileep was arrested on July 10 for allegedly hiring goons to assault the young woman and videotape the heinous act. The actor's repeated attempts to secure bail have ended in failure. In his bail petition, Dileep had raised serious allegations against his ex-wife Manju Warrier.
