Four, including couple and daughter, killed in car-lorry collision

Kozhikode: A car collided with a tipper lorry on the National Highway bypass near Ramanattukara on Monday, killing a couple, their daughter and a relative. Two people were injured in the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Yahootti, 65, of Tirur; his wife Nafisa, 56; daughter Zahira, 35; and their kin Sainuddin, 45.

Zahira's children Sesha Fatima, 6; and Shafin Muhammad, 4, have been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College hospital with injuries.

The family was travelling to the Comtrust Eye Hospital in Kozhikode as the children needed an eye check. The traffic police said the car tried to overtake a lorry near Seva Mandiram in the bypass, and rammed into a tipper coming from the opposite direction.

The car was totally wrecked and it was quite a hard task taking out the occupants. Nafisa died on the spot while the other succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The tipper was carrying metal for road repair work being carried out in the bypass.
