Kanyakumari: Tamil Nadu government plans to build a bridge linking the Vivekananda Memorial and the 133-feet tall statue of Thiruvalluvar, located 70 metres away in the sea, in Kanyakumari. A detailed plan will be drawn up for the project, said district collector Prashant M Vadnare.
Inaugurating a seminar on the tourist centres in Kanyakumari, he said visitors to the area are often unable to visit the poet-philosopher's statue as boat services are halted if weather is bad. This has prompted the authorities to consider about a bridge linking the two memorials that are located nearby at the meeting point of the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean.
Plans are afoot for bus services linking main tourist centres in the district like Kanyakumari, Shucheendram, Naagraja temple, the Padmanabhapuram palace, Mathur bridge and Thriparappu water falls.
