A 'super app,' that lets you book train tickets easily, is chugging down the tracks! As per reports, the new app will help passengers purchase passenger tickets, unreserved tickets, platform passes, meals, submit feedback, do PNR enquiry, chart vacancy, monitor train schedules and also track the train running status. Now, different apps and platforms are used for all of these different services. The railways are in the process of improving the tech features of the app to enhance a smooth service experience. The app is expected to be rolled out by December this year, if all goes well. It will be a substatial upgrade to the currently existing IRCTC Rail Connect app, which was launched in 2014. It is one of the most popular applications among railway commuters in India.
Interestingly, from November 1, the Railways had also updated its ticketing policy, by decreasing the advance reservation period for train tickets form 120 days to 60 days. Apparently, this is because 21% reservations made for 61 to 120 days in advance were cancelled. Around 5% of passengers didn't use their tickets either. The advance reservation facility of 365 days for foreign travellers wil continue to be available.
