Khasak: Restaurant review
The view of Khasak. Photo: Khasak/Facebook

It had been raining almost incessantly through the day. All we wanted to do was go and eat something spicy, to warm us up. As we drove to the city we knew that we were headed to Khasak, a restaurant which was located near Jawahar Nagar – a bit far away from our normal haunts. It was around seven in the evening when we drove up to Khasak. The whole place was lit up with colorful lights. And it really looked inviting to us. As we walked down the steps to the landscaped pathway, a huge blackboard welcomed us. Today's Specials, it said and we almost decided on our menu for the day standing in front of the board. Since we were really hungry we started with ordering off the 'Today's Special' list. We ordered Puttu and Chicken kassa - a specialty dish at this restaurant, chicken biriyani, cooked in the typical Malabar style and appams with beef curry. That done, we decide to take a look around. Khasak looked like an old house tastefully done up. There was ample space with seating options inside the restaurant and outside. If you want to be close to nature you can sit at one of the pavilions set up outside the house. Each of the rooms are brightly done up and the woodwork makes you feel at home. We preferred to sit outside. It is the ambience that wins you over at Khasak before even the food makes its entry. The Chicken kassa was mildly spicy, yet finger-licking good. The beef was tender and juicy and went well with the appams which were so soft and fluffy that we ordered for more. The biriyani was so perfect that we were not happy with the helping. The choices for dessert was limited to Falooda, Serradura, brownies and ice creams. The Falooda was a bit too sweet, the Serradura yummy and the brownie with ice cream just perfect. And then, we were done. Khasak is easy on the wallet, when you compare with the other classy restaurants in town. A meal for four comes to around Rs 1500. While waiting for the bill to arrive, we take a look at the menu and discover that they have Mexican food too - but since we were not hungry anymore we decide to make another trip some day soon.
