Yes, we are speaking of the annals of the latest 'Amma' of Tamil Nadu who will cool her heels in a Bengaluru prison which has housed more dreaded predecessors.
AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala, 60, who was sent to Parappana Agrahara jail here, after being convicted in the disproportionate assets case, was lodged in a cell that she has to share with her sister-in-law Elavarasi.
She was given prisoner number 9234, reports said.
Jail authorities have assigned her the work of making candles and for that, she will be getting a fixed daily wage of Rs 50. She will also be provided with three sarees, a cot, and a table-fan.
Reports suggest that Sasikala had asked for several amenities like an AC room, TV, non-vegetarian food twice a week, 24-hour water supply, western commode, mineral water and a helper. It is not immediately known as to what extent the jail authorities have agreed to her demands.
DG (Prisons) Sathyanarayana Rao said Sasikala would get normal food, not home food, but it would be according to the doctor's advice.
The Supreme Court Tuesday convicted Sasikala and others accused in the disproportionate assets case for amassing wealth worth Rs 55 crore.
The AIADMK leader, who was locked in a bitter tussle with O. Panneerselvam for Tamil Nadu's chief minister post, took the inevitable journey to jail after the Supreme Court refused to give her further time to surrender.
Sasikala's another relative V.N. Sudhakaran was also imprisoned and he would be sharing the cell with other inmates.
