Chennai: Chandrahasan, the elder brother of actor Kamal Haasan, died following a massive cardiac arrest in London, family sources said.
Chandrahasan (82) who was staying with his daughter Anu Haasan, also an actress, and son Nirmal Haasan in London collapsed following a massive cardiac arrest and died Saturday night, they said.
Chandrahasan's wife Geethamani predeceased him in January this year.
Besides Chandrahasan, Kamal Haasan has another brother Charuhasan, also an actor. The three were managing The Raj Kamal Films International, the production venture of Kamal Haasan.
Some of the flicks like Virumaandi, Sathileelavathi, Vishwaroopam and Thoongavanam were produced by the firm.
Chandrahasan actively participated in the several round of talks with a section of Muslim outfits, who objected to some contents in Vishwaroopam, which faced several hurdles before its release a few years ago.
Kamal Haasan condoled the death of Chandrahasan, stating he had not even achieved half of the dreams dreamed by his brother for him.
"He has been a good friend; a good teacher; a good father. I have not even achieved half of the dreams he got for me", he said in a tweet.
Kamal Haasan's daughter and actress Shruti Haasan in her condolence message, said her uncle (Chandrahasan) was an honorable man with equipoise, strength of character and many achievements.
"May my uncle rest in peace - an honorable man with equipoise, strength of character and many achievements. Thank you for the condolences", she tweeted.
South Indian Film Artists Association, representing the film fraternity, condoled the death of Chandrahasan.
The Association said Chandrahasan was a guiding force to Kamal Haasan right from his early days in the tinsel world. "The Association extends its deep condolences to family of Kamal Haasan and Charuhasan on the demise of Chandrahasan", it said in a release.
The Association's former president and actor R. Sarath Kumar also condoled the death of Chandrahasan.
