Thiruvananthapuram: People from all walks of life paid their last respects to renowned Malayalam poet and lyricist O.N.V. Kurup, who passed away on Saturday.

The poet-lyricist and Jnanpith Award winner was suffering from age-related illness of late and breathed his last at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram at 4.49 pm following a cardiac arrest. He was 84. He is survived by wife Sarojini, son Rajeevan and daughter Mayadevi.

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan visited ONV's house on Sunday morning to pay his last respects.

A recipient of Padma Shri in 1998 and Padma Vibhushan in 2011, ONV Kurup had won 13 State awards and one national award for Best Lyrics.
