Swami Nirmalananda Giri Maharaj no more Swami Nirmalananda Giri Maharaj no more

Palakkad: Noted orator and Ayurvedic exponent Swami Nirmalananda Giri Maharaj, 87, passed away at a private hospital here on Thursday.

Initiated to ‘sanyasa’ by Swami Achyutananda Giri at the Tilbhandeshwar Math in Kashi in 1980, Swami Nirmalananda returned to Kerala and travelled the length and breadth of the state as well as the northern parts of the country preaching the universal philosophy of Advaita.

He always considered 'Ayurveda' an integral part of the Vedic system and treated people suffering from various diseases after setting up an Ayurveda center in Shornur in the 90s.

Later he moved to the Paliyil Madom in Palappuram, Ottappalam, and continued to attend spiritual discourses across the country and offered treatments to people from all strata of society. He is believed to be hailed from Iritty in Kannur.

He stopped delivering discourses due to health problems six months ago. On Tuesday, Swami was shifted to a hospital. He has authored four books – Kenopanishad, Thantra, Bhagavad Gitaykku Oru Amukham, and Kshethraradhana.

Funeral will be held at the Paliyil madom in Palappuram on Friday.
