INA INA Ezhimala

Kozhikode: A 21-year-old naval sailor attached to a naval base in neighboring Kannur district died Thursday at a hospital where he was treated after being found unconscious two days ago, the Navy said.

Pankaj Kumar Roy, hailing from Shilong in Meghalaya and posted in INS Zamorin (Naval base) of the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, died at the Pariyaram Medical College hospital in Kannur district where he was shifted after initial treatment at a Naval hospital.

Roy was found in an unconscious state by one of his colleagues at 5.30 AM on October 17 and was immediately taken to Naval hospital 'Navjivani' at the academy and administered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), an INA release said.

He was later shifted to the Pariyaram Medical College and Hospital where all efforts to revive him failed. The sailor was declared dead at 9.15 AM today, the release said, adding, the next of kin of the sailor had been informed.

An inquiry had been ordered by the southern naval command into the death of the sailor, it said.
