Eminent Malayalam writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair has slammed the demonetization of high-value currency notes, saying the move affected the life of the common man adversely. Irked by the remarks, the BJP hit out at the writer, saying his intention was suspect.
MT, who usually maintains silence on current affairs, unleashed a scathing criticism on the central government's demonetization drive at the launch of 'Kallappana Vetta: Sathyavum Mithyayum" (Black money hunt: truths and deluions), a book written by Kerala finance minister Thomas Isaac at Thunchan Parambu, Malappuram, the other day.
"The government keeps on changing its word about the number of days needed to set things right. What I have understood is that the countries that played with the currency system have flirted with danger," MT said.
The BJP retorted that the party cannot understand why and for whom MT made the remarks. "Many writers have been queuing up in front of AKG Centre (CPM's office in Thiruvananthapuram) of late. Their aim is some top posts in several boards. We don't want to count MT among them. The Kerala society doesn't expect MT among them," BJP leader K.N. Radhakrishnan told reporters in Kochi.
He said MT was silent when incidents like TP Chandrasekharan murder, which shocked the conscience of Kerala, took place.
