Minister orders probe into polytechnic ragging The accused in the Nattkaom Government Polytechnic College ragging case being brought to the judicial first class magistrate court in Changanassery.

Kottayam: Education minister C. Raveendranath has ordered a probe into the ragging incident at Nattakom Government Polytechnic College. The director of Technical Education would be responsible for the probe.

Meanwhile, all seniors who had allegedly ragged the juniors have been arrested. While eight of the accused surrendered before the police, the ninth was nabbed from his house at Melukkavu. Six of the accused who had surrendered a day ago were remanded to police custody. The other three are to be presented before the court on Tuesday.

The arrested have been accused of ragging nine first-year students in the college hostel on December 2. Avinash, one of the victims, has suffered serious kidney disorders. Another victim, Shyju T. Gopi is under treatment in Ernakulam.

The police have sealed the room where ragging took place. CI Binu Varghese said that statements from all, including the principal, teachers and hostel employees have been collected. The accused have been charged under anti-ragging and Prevention of Atrocities Act.
