During his speech, Kerala minister for ports Kadannappally Ramachandran stated that he used to call Mammootty his elder brother.
Mammootty, however, minced no words to react to the remark of the 72-year-old minister. The actor said later in a lighter vein, "Kadannappally Ramachandran calls me chetta (elder brother in local parlance). So you can imagine what my age is. But there is one more thing, the minister also calls my son 'chetta.' I am happy to have a younger brother as old as him."
Sri Lankan parliament speaker Desabandhu Karu Jayasurya conferred an honorary award to Mammotty, whose birthday was celebrated by cutting the cake at the venue.
Former chief minister Oommen Chandy, Santhigiri Ashram organizing secretary Swamy Gururatnam Gjana Thapaswi, K.N. Radhakrishnan and Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal, among others were present at the function.
