Kochi: An initiative to be self-sufficient in facing the drought was rolled out here. Initiated by actor Mammootty, the project, ‘Your Own Water’ held a meeting to discuss means to tide over the dry spell the state has been undergoing.
The meeting decided to set up water kiosks and also to install pandals—marquees providing shade—at traffic signals, like those in Nagpur. Those who want water and wishing to provide the same can contact the project over the number, 92070-00800. The needy would be provided water in tankers in Ernakulam district from Friday.
District collector M.G. Rajamanickam said Mammootty would head the initiative, and a detailed project report would soon be prepared. The actor said we should start finding solutions to everyday issues rather than always rely on the government.
Kerala Dams Authority Chairman Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair, V-Guard Group CMD Kochouseph Chittilappilly, Prof M.K. Sanoo, Dr S. Sachidananda Kamat, B. Bhadra and Manorama News TV channel news director Johny Lukose attended the meeting.
