Kollam: Renowned Malayalam actor Kollam G.K. Pillai, who has acted in dramas, TV serials and over 80 Malayalam films, died Saturday night. He was 80.
The actor had been undergoing treatment for various age-related illnesses. Kollam G.K. Pillai is known for his character and comedy roles in movies of 1970s and 80s.
Pillai, a theatre-artist-turned-cine-actor, had performed in over 4,000 stages. He became active in theatre in 1962 donning a role in Kollam Universal Theatre's drama titled 'Dahajalam'. He made his film debut in the 1973 movie Masappady Mathupillai directed by A. N. Thampi.
Before taking up acting in films, he had also worked as a KSRTC bus conductor.
Mukkuvane Snehicha Bhootham, My Dear Kuttichaathan, Ithikkara Pakki, Swanthamevide Bandhamevide and Ulsavappittennu are some of the movies he acted in. He was also part of a number of TV serials.
Bhavaniyamma is his wife and the couple has four children.
