Thrippunithura: In a startling find, the excise department nabbed a 17-year-old boy for cultivating cannabis (ganja/weed/marijuana) on the terrace of his house in Thrippunithura near Kochi.
The boy was taken into custody and was presented before a juvenile court.
Excise department has been receiving several complaints of late that there is a major spike in drug abuse among students. Excise sleuths had busted a number of drug peddling mafias in the area.

They also tracked down students who began cultivating cannabis on an experimental basis. The investigation led them to the terrace of the boy's house at Thekkumbhagam where they found that he was growing weed.
Excise officials also said they got information that students in Thrippunithura used LSD stamps (lysergic acid diethylamide) and MDMA (commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly) during their picnic trips.
“The students got these drugs from Bengaluru. We will be now investigating excursion of students from schools,” excise inspector H.S. Hareesh said.
