New Delhi: The Civil Aviation Ministry has recieved a request to rename the Kochi International Airport after 8th century religious philosopher Adi Shankara.
Navodayam and Faith Foundation, have also requested minister of state for civil aviation Mahesh Sharma to develop Adi Shankara Tourism Circuit in India and Nepal to spread the teachings of the man, hailed as a 'Jagadguru' (teacher of the world).
In a joint appeal to Sharma, the two organisations said the minister should consider declaring the birth anniversary of Jagadguru Adi Sankara as the 'National Philosopher's Day'.
They have also sought setting up of a national research centre in philosophy in his memory in Delhi.
"The Indian philosophical thoughts may be part of our curricula starting from primary to research level," the organisations said.
In March, Haryana Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution to name Chandigarh airport after freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.
