Idukki: A dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Congress-led UDF opposition and Kerala Congress (M), in Idukki district and parts of Kottayam district was complete. No untoward incidents were reported.
The shutdown was called to protest the 'delay' by the Center in issuing final notification of Ecologically Fragile Land under Kasturirangan report for preservation of Western Ghats.
Besides Idukki district, the hartal was observed in some border panchayats like Melukavu, Poonjar, Koottikkal, Thikkoyi, Peruvanthanam, Kokkeyar and Thekkekkara in neighboring district of Kottayam.
The hartal was also in place in Perunadu, Vadasserykkara, Vechuchira, Naranammoozhy, Chittar, Seethathodu, Thannithodu and Aruvappulam in Pathanamthitta district.
The date of expiry of the draft notification of the Western Ghats report was March 4.
