Is Kannur University in the United States? Going by their academic calendar, it seems so. Independence Day, according to the calendar is on July 4, and students get holidays on Martin Luther King day and Columbus day, but not for Onam and Vishu.
The bloomers don't end here: the calender says Daylight Saving Time will start from March 13. That means people should start working early as the sun sets early those days. One will have to wait till November 6 to get back to the sun setting on the Indian skies!
The goof up was resulted by a mistake committed first by the printers and then by the staff who was supposed to proofread the diary. Instead of the Indian calendar it was a US calender that was printed on the diary. The calender does not mention Onam or Vishu, but have holidays on Martin Luther King, Columbus day, etc.
The university has already distributed 2000 diaries to students. The contract for printing was awarded to a Delhi-based company called Adco India Private Ltd. The varsity has paid Rs 2.36 lakh to the printers in this regard.
A copy of the diary was given to university authorities for proof reading. The space for page number on index page also is left vacant in the carelessly designed diary.
