Her mother, Vimala of Pattadampu adivasi colony in Idukki, who suffered grievous injuries to her head and back bone in the attack is in the ICU of the same hospital and still not fully conscious.

The accused, Ravi (31), attacked Vimala and the child in a fit of rage after a fight with his wife. He went into hiding but was arrested by the police.
The couple has four other children. The child welfare committee will decide on their custodianship.
