Failing to find a job, Kerala wrestler ends life Sumesh

Erattupetta (Kottayam): A youth, who was a five-time gold medalist in wrestling in state school meets and had represented Kerala in the national meet, was found dead at his home here on Sunday.

P.S. Sumesh of Puthenparambil, Poonjar, was found hanging inside his house Sunday afternoon. Though he was rushed to a hospital, he was declared brought dead. He was working at a cold storage at Poonjar.

It is suspected that Sumesh took the extreme step as he was disappointed over not getting a permanent job despite having several achievements to his credit, police said. The police said the reason for the suicide could be ascertained only after examining a diary, which was found from Sumesh's house. He had reportedly applied for jobs at several places, but they did not yield any result.

Sumesh won gold in wrestling for five consecutive years when he was a student at SMV School at Poonjar. His four siblings were also into wrestling. It was alleged that they also did not get deserving jobs.

He is survived by wife Reshmi and daughter Niya.
