Athirampuzha murder: Kottayam native held, victim yet to be identified Police at the murder site

Kottayam: The man taken into custody for killing his pregnant lover at Athirampuzha confessed to drinking with her father even the day after dumping her body at a rubber estate.

The murder suspect, Khader Yousuf aka Bashir, tried to yarn his own version of the events even after the police zeroed in on him by tracking a parcel service number found on the polythene sheet that covered the abandoned body.

Cornered with evidence, he said he had dropped her body in the plantation but she had died after falling on to the ground. He said he pressed her face with a bed sheet to stop the froth coming out of her mouth.

He later broke down and confessed to the murder. He was talking to Aswathi on Saturday night regarding the date of delivery. He said they had an argument after he raised doubts about her fidelity. During the fight, he pushed aside Aswathi, who hit her head on the ground. He later strangled her and stuffed the body in a sack and put it inside his car’s boot.

In the morning, he messaged his employer that he was out of town. He spent the entire day at home and dumped the body in the estate at night.
