A poster of 'Angamaly Diaries'.Muvattupuzha: It looks like the Kerala police have officially put on the suit of moral brigade in the state.
In yet another incident of moral policing by the force, a top police officer and his team stopped a car carrying the actors of latest Malayalam film Angamaly Diaries, alleging that 'immoral activities' were taking place inside the vehicle.
The film crew were in the town on a promotional tour and the police action led to dramatic scenes in public view.
"Seeing that we have an actress with us in the car, the police started questioning us. What are you doing with a girl inside, they asked us," actor Sarath Kumar told Manorama News.
“The moment the police saw me, they wanted to prove that something else was going on inside the vehicle. It was moral policing,” actress Binny Rinky Benjamin said.
“They kept on asking us questions in bad taste. Is this what people in film industry usually do? What are you men doing inside the car with a girl? - these were their queries. They pulled us outside the car and took photos,” another actor Vineeth Vishwam said.
“The police asked actor Tito Wilson for his name and when he gave them his name, the officer's reply was this – should I make you Pulsar Tito?,” he added. The cop was referring to Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in the sensational Malayalam actress attack case.
A furious Lijo Jose Pellissery, director of Angamaly Diaries, took to Facebook to slam the police.
“The police overtook the crew's car and asked the actors and actresses to step outside. The police officer asked them what was going on inside the car and abused all the actors using obscene language. I got information that it was the Muvattupuzha DySP,” Lijo said in a video posted on Facebook.
“It is unfortunate that the police, who are supposed to protect us, are harassing us. The incident happened in front of a theater and the police could have just taken a look at a poster of the movie to identify the actors. But they continued abusing the actors very badly,” Lijo added.
Earlier this month, when Shiv Sena activists unleashed a moral policing attack on young couples at Marine Drive in Kochi, police were accused of inaction as they let the Sena men cane youngsters.
