Pala native Aby Mannanal, his wife Roselyn and their son who is a B Arch student decided to design their dream home themselves as they wanted their house to have a unique identity. As the family had years of experience in the construction business and building material supply, they roped in expert workers and artisans for the construction work. Moreover, the family ensured the use of high-quality materials that suited modern construction styles.
The 5100 sqft mansion stands on a sprawling one-acre land. The house has been named ‘Cascade’ due to the presence of a natural spring here. The family decided to preserve the spring, letting clear water flow out to nourish the earth.
The elevation features a beautiful fusion of tropical and modern styles. Meanwhile, the house is designed by allowing excellent cross ventilation as the area is quite hot and humid.
Natural clay roof tiles have been paved on the roof to reduce the heat inside the house. Besides, the structure is taller (14.5 feet) than regular houses and the walls are lined with windows to let in cool breeze and natural sunshine. The surrounding landscape too has been designed elegantly to complement the elevation of the house. The verdant meadows, classy walkway and the cosy gazebo make the landscape perfect.
The palatial house has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, courtyards, kitchen with a work area and five bedrooms. The two courtyards are highlights of the interiors, with the first one offering soothing sights of greenery even from the family living area and the dining space. Meanwhile, the second courtyard is visible from the living area and the breakfast counter.
As the plot is a few feet above the road level with lush green paddy fields below, cool wind keeps embracing the structure, making interiors extremely cool and comfortable. Besides, wind enters the house through the folding windows in the family living area.
The bedrooms are quite simple with windows let in views and the breeze of the greenery outside. The bath-attached bedrooms also have wardrobes for storage and separate dressing spaces too.
The kitchen dons a chic European look with an adjacent work area. The family is delighted that their dream home, designed by themselves, has become a cynosure of eyes for families friends and the neighbourhood.
