Aneesh and Sariga, both doctors, wanted a charming house in their hometown Cherpulaserry in Palakkad, Kerala, that suits the unique weather conditions of the region. The house situated in the hottest district in the state is named ‘Meghamalhar’, a classical Hindustani raga that has the power to bring rains.

A fabulous fusion of contemporary designs and tropical elements make the elevation, perfect for the weather here. Meanwhile, the GI louvres and the sloped single roof are the highlights of the box-style structure.

The structure built on the 15-cent plot with an uneven layout has lots of space in front. The front yard is paved with classic Tandoor stones; meanwhile, decorative plants like calathea adorn the beautifully landscaped exteriors.

This amazing abode designed in 2750 sqft, has a car porch, sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with an adjacent work area, four bedrooms, office space and a balcony.

The spaces, designed in the semi-open style, with multiple double-height spaces look incredibly vaster. The rustic charm of a concrete ceiling is seen at many spots in the house. The staircase built in GI frame has solid wooden planks as steps. Meanwhile, sleek wooden piping is used on the hand railings. A long corridor with wooden tile-paved flooring connects spaces on the upper floor.

The casement window on the double-height wall of the living area is an interesting feature, allowing a mesmerizing upper view of the ground floor. The dining table is minimal with a wooden table and cushioned chairs.

The modern kitchen has cupboards built in marine ply with laminate finish. The countertop, meanwhile, has been paved with nano white. The exposed concrete finish of the ceiling grants a cosy ambience to the kitchen.

The bedrooms are simple yet elegant with cement-finished ceilings. There are lots of windows in bedrooms to bring in natural sunshine. Moreover, the bedroom on the upper floor opens to a beautiful balcony.

As the spaces have been designed according to the direction of wind and light, there is no need to switch on the lights or fans during the day, even in the sweltering heat of Palakkad.
