Ashwika Omkumar was a tomboy when she started modelling at eight. Now at 23, Ashwika is a promising model in the fashion industry.
“As a child, I loved sports and was often seen outdoors. My parents were quite stunned to see me get tanned after all the running about. As a child, I had acted in a advertisements and had also been part of ad shoots. Over the years, I realized that modelling was one of my greatest passions and decided to pursue it full-swing. I have participated in various fashion shows, including Miss Queen of India 2016 and Miss South India 2016,” says Ashwika.
When asked if a model's complexion mattered in the industry, she said, “I don't think that's the case today.” Interestingly, Ashwika dislikes wasting time for parlor visits and make-up. “Be natural at all times. That's what I believe in,” she says.
According to Ashwika, modelling demands a lot of hard work and sincerity. “You have to be professional in every sense. There are many who are unable to say 'no' at the right time and they end up doing almost anything for money. I have had my share of tough times. But my family has been very supportive,” she explains.
While pursuing her academics, Ashwika was compelled to forgo many good opportunities. Now, having completed her formal education, she hopes to do more interesting work.
