Malappuram: The Kerala Muslim Cultural Committee (KMCC), an NRI front organization of the Indian Union Muslim League in the Gulf, is actively involved in the poll campaign in Vengara.
The KMCC had played a significant role during the campaign for the Malappuram Lok Sabha election, earlier this year too.
Vengara has a huge NRI population with most of them based in the Gulf. Long before Keralites begin to flock to the Gulf in search of jobs, people from Vengara had made their presence felt in the Gulf. This is evident from the fact that Vengara has 18,862 Non Resident Indian voters.
This makes the role of KMCC vital as the outfit often pools in money to 'airlift voters', sometime even just for a day to cast their votes.
Vengara's 148 polling booths have on an average 90-150 NRIs.
The KMCC is also organizing and coordinating various poll-related activities in favor of the IUML candidate, K.N.A Khader.
It organized as many as 12 flash mobs to create a buzz for its poll campaign, which will end at 5 pm on Monday.
The KMCC also coordinates various social media discussions with NRIs to help them keep a keen tab on the political climate of their home state from their work places.
