Mumbai: When Iain Hume netted his third goal against Delhi Dynamos in an away match in the Indian Super League (ISL) last week, he celebrated the hat-trick with a ‘shave’ gesture. The fans thought he was trying to do something like the ‘throat slash’ celebration made popular by C K Vineeth and Kervens Belfort in the last edition of the league.
It was only on Saturday the story behind that peculiar celebration was unwrapped.
Blasters team manger Antony Thomas had made a deal with the Canadian that if he scored a hat-trick, he would shave off his beard.
Though Hume suffered an injury during the game, in a display of utmost grit and resilience, he continued to play with a bandage around his head and scored three goals to help his team grab all three points.
After scoring the third goal, instead of celebrating with his teammates, Hume expressed his glee by making the funny gesture while running towards Antony who was sitting in the dugout.
Once the match got over, the manager kept his words by taking his beard off in the presence of Hume, Vineeth and Rino Anto.
