Panaji: The Indian Panorama section of the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) got to a "delayed" start as evergreen actress Sridevi inaugurated it at a function wherein a "headless" jury was felicitated here on Tuesday.
Earlier, the selection of the films for the section had courted a controversy with two films 'Nude' and 'S Durga' being removed by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry from the line-up prepared by the jury.
Bollywood filmmaker Rahul Rawail was appointed the new chairperson of the jury after filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh stepped down in protest against the government decision to exclude the two films from the section.
Sridevi declared the section open after the available jury members from both the feature and non-feature sections were felicitated. The event started a bit delayed as audience waited for the celebrities.
However, the IFFI organizers found themselves in an embarrassing situation after the anchor of the program called out some jury members, including scriptwriter Apurva Asrani, for being felicitated, unaware of the fact that they had quit. Some organizers were seen correcting the list as the event progressed.
A section of the jury members, who were present at the ceremony, were seen cheering during the function while some told Onmanorama that the dropping of the two films from the list they prepared was for wrong reasons.
After the event, Indian Panorama opening films Pushkar Puran, directed by Kamal Swaroop, and Pihu, directed by Vinod Kapri, were screened. The crew members of both the films were present.
