Internationally acclaimed Malayalam film 'Sexy Durga', directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, will have its Kerala premiere on Thursday (November 16) in Thiruvananthapuram.
The film, that courted controversy for various reasons right from its title, will have a special screening at Aries Plex, Audi 1. Entry passes will be available for Rs 500.
The director said the out-of-the-ordinary premiere was being organized to raise funds for the Kazhcha Indie Film Festival (KIFF), which will run parallel to International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), to be held in Thiruvananthapuram from December 8 to 11.
Entry passes for Sexy Durga premiere can be sought through kfftvm@gmail.com or call: +91 81290 91929.
The film has already won several international awards including, Hivose Tiger Award for best feature film at IFFR (Rotterdam), Golden Apricot for best feature film in Yerevan (Armenia), Best international feature in Guanajuato, Mexico, and Best Feature Film at Geneva IFF. It also won Sanal Kumar a nomination for best director at Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
However, the film was constantly plagued by controversies in India and also in Kerala with a group of right wing fanatics issuing threats to the director over its title.
In an unusual move, the censor board forced the filmmaker to change the title from Sexy Durga to S Durga.
Sanal has pulled out his film from the IFFK after it was included in the Malayalam Cinema Today category.
The film has not been selected for the Indian Panorama segment of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa later this month.
It is alleged that the jury had at first selected the movie to the festival, but later pulled it out following I&B ministry's intervention.
