Panaji: Ace Malayalam director Jayaraj's trilingual film Veeram, one of the most ambitious and much-waited projects of the year, had its screening at the ongoing IFFI before a fervent audience Friday.
Most of the Malayali delegates present here to attend the 47th edition of IFFI gathered in Inox II theater complex, the main venue of the festival, to watch the movie, the screening of which was scheduled at 8.30 pm.
The film was screened before a packed audience with no ticket left for reservation.
Long queues were seen before the movie hall much ahead of the movie's premiere.
Veeram, an independent adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth and the legend of Chanthu, a warrior in northern Kerala, is touted as the most expensive film in Malayalam. The film was screened in The Indian Panorama section.
With Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor in the lead role, the film is made in English, Hindi and Malayalam and aiming at a wide range of audience. Jayaraj had earlier exuded confidence that the film would cross Rs 100 crore in box office. The teaser of the film has gone viral.
Though the film was scheduled for the upcoming IFFK in Thiruvananthapuram, the makers later recalled the entry as they did not wish to screen it in public before the official release slated for January.
