Manju Warrier will play the role of Kamala Das in the Kamal movieIt has been the topic of much discussion and apparently, many actresses were considered to play the heroine in Kamal's next, Aami. And now, after much speculations, Manju Warrier has been cast as the lead actress to play the role of Kamala Das.
Kamal confirmed the news while speaking to a TV channel.
Vidya Balan was director Kamal's first choice to essay the role of Malayalam's favorite poet-feminist, Kamala Surayya, aka Madhavikutty, in his most ambitious project. Later, when Vidya Balan opted out of the project citing disagreement with the director’s approach to the subject, several names including Charlie fame Parvathy, Nayanthara and veteran actress Parvathi were tagged along with the movie.

Das, an award winning and controversial writer, passed away at the age of 75 in 2009. Her decision to convert to Islam in 1999 had raised many eyebrows.
The movie will reportedly go on floors by March 20. The childhood portions of the poet will be shot first.
