Kottayam: The 'City Of Letters' is all excited when the state film awards night returns after 18 years. Superstars of Malayalam moviedom and the rising new-gen stars promise to make the evening of December 26 a memorable one.
The film awards night was ushered out of the confines of an auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram after the intervention of Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the minister in charge of cinema. Organisers are expecting about 25,000 viewers this time when the function is held at an open-air venue, more than ten times those turned up in the previous year.
Veteran director I V Sasi will receive the J C Daniel Award from Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Mohanlal will also be on stage.
Nivin Pauly and Sudev Nair, who shared the award for the best actor, Nazriya Nazim, who will receive the award for the best actress, and a host of stars including Fahadh Faasil, Sidharth Siva, Anjali Menon and directors Renjith and Amal Neerad will add glitter to the night.
Jayaraj, whose Ottal was selected as the best picture, Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, who was selected as the best director for ‘Oralppokkam’, Jude Antony Joseph, whose ‘Om Shanti Osana’ was selected as the most popular movie, Abrid Shine, who was selected as the best debutant director for ‘1983’, will receive the awards on December 26.
Minister Radhakrishnan inaugurated the distribution of admission passes by handing over a ticket to actor Murali Gopy. Passes are available from the reception committee office on Shastri Road.
Radhakrishnan said the award night would be a celebration of Kottayam. The people have already claimed the night of the stars. The night had a purpose of representing the cinema and artistic culture and tradition of Kottayam, he said.
