Kochi: A day after the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) decided to reinstate the membership of tainted actor Dileep, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) on Monday slammed the move, which they termed 'misogynist'.
The WCC, which was launched as a platform to voice the concerns of the women in the industry, condemned the AMMA's decision in a Facebook post.
Dileep was ousted from the association on July 11 last year after he was arrested for allegedly plotting the brutal attack on an actress. Dileep is out on bail in the case, the trial of which is scheduled to start soon.
In a series of questions posed to the AMMA leadership, the WCC asked what changes have actually taken in place in the circumstances that led to Dileep's expulsion from the outfit.
"(AMMA) You are taking back a person who is accused of crimes including rape. Do you think there's nothing wrong in it?," the women's collective asked.
The WCC said that with the latest decision, the AMMA was insulting the survivor of the attack again.
"Is'nt such decisions that is related to a person involved in a case in the trial stage a challenge to the judicial system of the land?," they asked.
The WCC was formed in the wake of the actress attack case last year.
The office-bearers decided to take back the popular actor to the association citing that the decision to expel him would not stand valid on certain technical grounds.
The decision to expel Dileep was taken at an emergency meeting of AMMA at actor Mammootty's residence in Panampilly Nagar on July 11, 2017, a day after his arrest.
Dileep was then serving as the treasurer of the association.
