When Manorama News organised cancer awareness campaign Kerala Can, film actress Manju Warrier had extended whole-hearted support for the initiative. The Malayalam artiste, who is the face of the campaign against cancer, each time reminded the audience that the misconceptions about cancer was much more dreadful than the disease itself and emphasised the need for family support.
Manju's father Madhavan Warrier, who passed away on Sunday after his fight with cancer, had told Manorama News earlier that it was her constant support that gave the family the strength amid their adverse health.
“During the treatment of her mother, Manju used to ask the doctor to shift the radiation hours by evening so that we could go out and watch movie in the morning. We made trips to Kanyakumari, we went to shopping malls, we used to dine out. She was as usual and took us everywhere to make us feel that nothing is going to happen. It was her confidence that gave us the strength to face everything," said Warrier during the Kerala Can show.
Talking about her experience to Manorama News, the actress said, "When my mother's hair started to fall, my father and I actually understood what the horror is. But we did not express it fearing it would dishearten her. That night, we held each other's hands and promised ourselves that we are going to fight back cancer, no matter what. It's been 17 years since then, and my Amma is very active and energetic. She practices Thiruvathira regularly. We even stayed strong when my father was diagnosed with cancer four years ago. In case I too get cancer in future we will not be depressed because all these experiences have given me the confidence to be strong and fight it," said Manju.
"Be the ray of hope in the fight against cancer," she said.
