Actress Sangeetha is a known figure in Mollywood for her roles in movies like Uthaman, English Medium, and Summer in Bethlehem. But the 39-year-old is often identified for the bold role she did in the controversial film Uyir which released in 2006.
Directed by Samy, the film was about a woman who falls for her husband's brother. The film stirred up a huge controversy when it released for it's a taboo subject. Recently, in an interview with a Tamil online channel, Sangeetha revealed that the movie was too disturbing for her.
"The director had narrated me the script and it was a very bold one and I couldn't make up my mind on taking up the role. That evening, I met my family doctor, who is also a psychiatrist. Surprisingly, she told me about a woman patient who had drugged her husband so that she could live with her brother-in-law. The doctor's case was similar to the story-line that the director narrated to me earlier in the day. When I told her about it, she immediately asked me to take up the project as it would be an awareness film.
"I made it clear to my director that I won't do any exposing scenes. When the director agreed, we went ahead for filming. During the shooting, we had differences of opinion and arguments. The makers wanted to spice up the movie and asked me to do certain scenes which I had denied to do. Somehow, we completed the film. On the day of its release, I went to theatre with my mother but couldn't watch it. It was too disturbing. I wanted to rush out of the theatre. Even now, when they telecast the film on TV, I'd go off somewhere. I cannot see myself in such a bad negative light," she said.
